Who will get a stimulus check?
Why many Americans won’t be getting a stimulus check
-As you probably know as a part of the 2 trillion dollar stimulus bill congress agreed to send out a $1200 check to most of america.
However in order to get this stimulus out as quickly as possible, Congress opted to send checks to every tax paying citizen, leaving millions in the dust.
They choose to send this check to every tax paying citizen because they decided this group would be the most affected by an economic downfall – which makes sense: the 15 year old tax dependent is not as affected as the 25 year old single office worker.
This seems good in theory but there’s undoubtedly people in need who won’t receive aid
Here's a look at who falls through the cracks:
College students and 17-year-olds
People who get disability benefits from the Social Security Administration or Veterans Affairs are eligible for the payments
Recently divorced or estranged
Seniors living with their kids
Parents who split custody
Immigrants without Social Security numbers
Babies born in 2020
People who owe back child support
High earners who lost their jobs
The size of the payments starts scaling down for those who made more than $75,000 last year and zeroes out at $98,000 or more.
But what if you exceeded the limit in 2019 only to lose your job or get a lower-paying job this year? You won't get a payment now, but you will get a credit on your taxes next year when the system catches up.
The stimulus law puts on hold other debts that typically lead to tax refunds' being garnished, such as overdue student loans or back taxes. But not child support. The coronavirus money can still be garnished if you're overdue on those payments.
Even if you’ve been on track and making payments
High Income Earners:
Single up to $75k – Married up to 150k – Full benefit
Scales down to $99k single or $198k married
If you earned under 75k in 2018 and over 75k in 2019 but have not filed your 2019 taxes yet you will receive the full $1200 stimulus BUT you will have to pay that back in 2021 when you file your 2020 taxes. For example if you earned 60k in 2018 and 120k in 2019 but haven’t filed your taxes yet you will receive the $1200 stimulus however you will be required to pay back the entire amount in 2021 because you are over the eligible range.
If for whatever reason you don’t receive your stimulus payment it is not gone forever.
The best way to get payment as soon as possible is if you have your bank account registered with the IRS. If you don’t you can expect to receive a paper check however that could take several months to receive. The solution here is in the next month or so the IRS will be opening a portal that will allow you to add your bank account information in and get payment electronically.
Again you will receive the money either way so long as you qualify but money today is always worth more than money tomorrow
Finally unless you’re a social security benefit recipient you need to have filed your 2018 and 2019 taxes as soon as possible to not be overlooked. The silver lining here is Turbotax is offering a free tax prep / stimulus register service for this exact reason. Do this as soon as possible.

I hear all of you. I’m on worker’s compensation so technically I’m still employed but I can’t work due to an injury I had on the job. I get a check every 28 days but it’s definitely not enough . I live by myself my rent takes half my check then all the other bills and that’s not including food or any other bills like medical, and god forbid I have an emergency I’m screwed! But did I get a stimulus check? NO!!!!!!

Thanks, very informative. I’ve never received a Tax refund, so the IRS does not have my bank account info. Therefore , I will default into the PAPER CHECK paid sometime from May-Sept, unless I go that PORTAL you spoke about. This is all well and good, but the PORTAL you talk about is broken and crashed. After you enter the proper info it asks for , you get a popup that says: PAYMENT STATUS NOT AVAILABLE. This is happening with THOUSANDS of taxpayers that want to speed up and change from paper payment to more efficient direct deposit, electronically. I find it strange you offer no help on this one, as its the most common problem right now. If you try to dig into it more, to find out WHY it says this message , it probably tells you ” you are not eligible” which is not true. Some people that were able to get through to some authorities at the IRS says the system has NOT CRASHED that what you see is the truth, you are not eligible, which is INCORRECT. Please let us know THE TRUTH if you have it and shed some light on this important subject. Thank you !

This is a great video. Thank you! At least now I know that I’m not going to get a stimulus check. I had a motorcycle accident in April 2013 that nearly killed me and put me out of work for 2 years. 13 bones broke including my 5 lowest vertebrae. During that time obviously I couldn’t pay child support because I couldn’t even walk let alone work. When I got called into court in 2015 the state of Illinois refused to take into consideration my injuries and the fact I was under a doctor’s care and couldn’t work. They told me that I had to pay the amount I was ordered to in court plus just under $40,000 in arrears plus the amount I was ordered to pay ay my divorce. That may not seem like alot to some but it has ruined me financially. No matter how hard I try I just can’t get ahead and now they just keep kicking me while I’m down. I was really hoping to get the stimulus check. Just sad that no matter how hard I try I can’t get ahead or catch a break. Thanks for the info
I feel it’s not fair at all that dependents who are on SSI can’t receive it, or get any extra for them. So not fair. They are the ones struggling the most. That part should definitely be reconsidered.
Max, do you have any info on this: My husband of 30+ years passed 11/17/19 and we were small business owners all those years.I haven’t filed 2019 taxes yet. We also sold the business 5/17/19. Now it looks like whatever amount I get I’ll probably have to give back, right? What if I live basically on SS but have a rather large CD and savings. But the government might know all that info yet bc of not filing 2019 yet, filed an extension, thank you.
Let live without the IRS for 1 year. After that year we’ll see what a casino scam they really are.
1:17 I have checked this a billion times, and it is even outlined by the IRS, so I don’t know why this *isn’t* clarified by any news outlets or anything. Even if you were *NOT* claimed, but you told the IRS you ” *could* be claimed as a dependent”… even if you were *NOT* claimed–if you told them that, you will not get a stimulus check. Punished for being honest…
We fell through the cracks as well! We work on a commission basis as do so many people in car sales, real estate, many of us. It is so unfair. We pay so much in taxes but what we made last year does not at all reflect on what is happening now. When your income goes from just over the limit to zero it makes a huge impact and no one is even considering this.
What if someone’s illegally claiming you without your consent, then what should you do because you do have some manipulative family members or friends. What should you do about it?
What about those families like mine, married couple US citizen mother and children that don’t qualify because my husband doesn’t have a SS#. I would understand if they said they are not helping my husband because of that but denied myself and my 2 children is simple unacceptable…
In my opinion everyone paying their taxes should get the stimulus check no matter what.

@Sherry Tolentino question, did you tried to file 2019 taxes separate. I dont really know but they may consider your last tax report intead of 2018. You may get it this way. Find out!
@angelyaniv my last income was for 2018 and was filed in 2019. I haven’t had any other income since 2018, except social security. They are using my last filed income tax.,which we filed jointly.

I stayed with my Son for a year to help him out with their 👶 and they claimed me on their 2018-19 taxes. I’ve been home ever since..they did not claim me on their 2020…I wonder if they will send me a stimulus check for 2020?

You know what, I’ve worked since I was 15 years old. I’m not trying to recieve any stimulus because I don’t need it. But I do think some people shouldn’t recieve it. I don’t think people reviewing welfare already should recieve anything because they haven’t lost a job, and their finances have remained the same. They’re getting paid the same money. People who have lost their jobs should get it. I don’t think people who have never tried to work or who have never held a job should get one red cent. When you plan your life to have nothing, then nothing is what you should get. Now if you’re disabled and have been receiving disability, you should keep getting your disability, not a stimulus, because you income hasn’t been affected.
I’ve been paying child support for over 11 years now, I was pretty heartbroken when I found out I wasn’t getting one. If you pay and never late like myself or if you don’t pay at all you’re still treated like trash SMH. After bills are paid and child support I only have $35 for the month. It would of been nice to have extra money to buy more groceries at least. So if a 2nd bill is passed ($2000 month) that would mean I get SCREWD again 😞💔💔
I have a question: even if the beneficiaries of this stimulus were 300 million people, if you make 300 million x 1,200 it equals 360 billion, not 3,000 billion (3 trillion). Where are the other 2640 billion?

From what I see : way too many people haven’t received there 1st stimulus. The government is famous for charging large interest to Americans who are slow in paying the irs. Why aren’t these late stimulus payments receiving interest – double standard isn’t a good thing. Pay American’s interest uncle sam
Hi Max!!! This is very informative. I am on SSDI and finally received my Stimulus payment like two weeks AFTER the first set of payments came through. I updated the account that it was SUPPOSED to be deposited to, but the IRS deposited it into an account that IS being closed due to Bankruptcy. Yep, I have called and cannot get anyone on the line from the IRS or Treasury.
